Sensible Soccer 2

This game was first released for the PC in 1992. There wasn’t that many soccer games for PC in those days and the game became very popular among soccer fans. Unfortunately for Sensible Soccer the very popular FIFA took a chunk of Sensible’s market share when EA Sports released FIFA International Soccer.

Sensible Soccer sounds like a very sensible game doesn’t it? The controls are simple, maybe too simple since there is only one button to use for shooting, headers and all other moves. There are several teams to choose from when playing this game.

However virtually all teams outside Europe are no where to be seen which means that major teams like Brazil, Argentina and Mexico is out, kind of sad.

The game also offers different kinds of cups, for example Qualifying for the World Cup, European Cup and so on. It’s nice that a game at this age has so many options, options that soccer games today having problems to compete with.Sensible Soccer is actually quite hard to learn, or let’s say it’s harder to learn than for example the FIFA-series. In this game you only use one button and move with the arrows and since there is not much room for mistakes (depending on the team you are playing against) the situations quickly become stressful and fun.

After a while of getting to know the controls and the feel of the game you will start scoring goals. After each goal you score a replay is shown, it’s always nice with some highlights. Before every match you have a chance to decide upon your team tactics. For example the formation, the overall tactic, which players that should be on the field and so on. All these options really effect the outcome of the game, fortunately the options can be changed during the game by pressing the q-key.

There is not much to say about the sound and graphics of the game. Personally I think the graphics are cute, they are surely not great but in some strange way the make you laugh because the players appears so funny.

What I might have against this game is the controls, they are not working very well and moving with the ball is actually quite hard. Also the fact that teams like Brazil and Argentina are left out makes this game less extensive.
