Highway Pursuit

Clear the highway from evil thugs in this game by Adam Dawes. Vicious agents are about to take over the highway (god forbid) and you in your sports car are the only ones who can stop them. The stage is set for Highway Pursuit a game by Adam Dawes.

This is the first problem with the game is that the background story is not present anywhere in the game. I had to go to the readme file to find out what the story was about. This is of course not acceptable, at least for me the story is key for the game.

Highway Pursuit itself is very entertaining, you control your car in high speeds with a machine gun mounted in the front trying to avoid other cars and the evil agents. The machine gun ammo is unlimited, there are also other weapons that you will get along the way.

The game-engine is done well and you can actually feel the high speeds you are in which in some much more advanced commercial games you can’t. The controls are simple, the game is simple and as I probably have stated in my other reviews this are some of the key ingredients to make a good game.

The AI of the agent cars is ok but not much more, they try to ram you, sometimes they cooperate trying to ram you, but not much more. I would have wanted something more out of them to make them a bit more “scary”, for example some shooting, road blocks and so on.

Highway Pursuit is made as an arcade game, personally I’m a big fan of those. You get points for each agent car you destroy and after a while you have gathered enough points to be on top of the high score list.

I can’t really say that the graphics are stunning, they do the job and the sports car you are riding is looking good, however the other motorists are not that well done, maybe something to develop in the future.

What keep this game from being on top of our score scale are the lack of story inside the game and the graphics of other motorists. However these problems become small when you find yourself having tons of fun with the game.
