Lost Island Surviving

Ever wondered how you would lead the competitors in the TV-show survivor? Well your time has come to show your leadership qualities as a survivor on an abandoned island.

In Lost Island you manage a group of people who have ended up on a deserted island in the middle of nowhere. The surroundings are stunningly beautiful, but dangerous.

The game has different kinds of scenarios and different sizes of groups of people depending on the scenario. Sometimes the people have ended up on the Island voluntarily to perform some type of task, for example build a house or something similar. Sometimes the people have gotten there as a result of an accident.

To make the people survive they need water and food. However they also need shelter, so you will do some house building. To build houses you need to make tools, to make tools you need to find some logs. The whole game is actually a chain of events that are linked to each other, as it would be if you were stranded on an island and had to do similar things.

Lost Island has a pretty simple set of controls, they takes about five minute to learn, but they are still not as logical as you see in other strategy and adventure games. There are too many clicks to get jobs started and even after that you have to add some clicks to finally end the job.

The graphics are not bad at all, they looks like Jagged Alliance, Fallout or Baldur’s Gate. However they have better rendering and shading than any of the games I mentioned. The view in the game makes the game a bit more like a role playing game, and it’s a very thin line between RPG and strategy.

There are a number of stats that you have to keep track of when you play the game. The characters have an overall health meter, the characters loose health when they don’t get any food or water. In the beginning they loose just a little health, after that the health bar generally plunges.

Also there are individual stats for hunger, fatigue, thirst and what the characters think of their island buddies. So there is a social element involved, just as it would be in the real world.

I think Lost Island is a breath of fresh air, there are virtually no violence so you could say that this game is somewhat family friendly. The best part about this game is that it’s first, I haven’t seen a game where the sole purpose is to survive on a remote island. Sure it has some flaws, which keeps it from the absolute top, but it’s still a good experience.
