A game where the objective is to water flowers, is Bloom from Karma Games more for kids than hardcore gamers? Read our review to find out.

If you ever played the game, Pipedreams you will probably feel right at home in Bloom. The objective is to connect pipes in order to water flowers. When the flowers grow they will be harvested and sold. The profits can be used to upgrade your backyard with different kinds of things (sort of the throne feature in the original Civilization game).

The differences between Pipedreams and Bloom are however many. First of all you cannot place the pipes as you want, they are supposed to go a predetermined route, the only problem is of course to find that route. Bloom is more like a puzzle game than a simple desktop game to pass some time, and on some levels it really gets hard.

Bloom does not feature a background story or so it is kind of hard to know why you are playing in the first place. But on the other hand who wouldn’t want to grow flowers in order to upgrade their backyard?

Bloom is a game with maybe the cutest graphics we have seen this fall, it’s really colorful and nice to look at.  But the graphics are not top-notch, and the visual effects are virtually non-existent.  The soundtrack does make up for the graphics; it’s very relaxing but a little bit drab. It’s not like you feel the heat when trying to puzzle together your pipes.

It is evident that Karma Team has worked on trying to introduce the game to the player in an efficient way. Most developers make boring tutorials or a thick manual. In Bloom you play two very simple introduction levels with some hints and that’s it to get you started.

Bloom is played offline, so there are no multiplayer options at all. I can imagine that this would have been a great multiplayer puzzle game, however we will never know. To be quite frank I think that there is a very little amount of feature compared to the twenty bucks you fork out for the game. There are other independent games that Elephant Games have released, such as RIP 3 that will give you much more bang for your buck.

However Bloom is a relaxing experience, maybe after a hard day at work. It’s clear that Bloom is a good foundation to build sequels on, but it’s also something wrong if players want more features during the first week of a game’s release.
