The makers of Actua
Soccer 2, SoulBringer and GunMetal develop a very special game we simply couldn’t
predict, read our review.
The interstellar
ship Eidolon embarks on its journey to a faraway galaxy carrying frozen human
colonists. In the future humans will obviously delegate more power to robots
as they are taking care of the ship during the voyage. A couple of light years
away the Eidolon main computer breaks down and it’s up to the little smart
maintenance robot Asimov to rescue the ship.
Mr Robot is very
hard to categorize as it’s sort of a mixture between a strategy, role-playing
and puzzle game. The story evolves during the game as you make your way around
the ship meeting different robots and computers. Actually the storyline is one
of the best parts of the game, the dialogues are fun and aren’t that long,
it’s easy and entertaining to follow them.
Most of the game
however is about hacking or shutting down computer systems, stop renegade robots
and moving stuff around. The hacking of computer systems is pretty straight
forward; you navigate a circuit board as you encounter enemies. When you encounter
an enemy the game switches to a battle screen, the battles works and looks a
lot like the Heroes of Might and Magic –series. You use different items
and gain experience as you win battles.
Another puzzle
part of Mr Robot is when you have to move crates or other items around. It’s
also fun but maybe a bit limited. When it comes to the game play Mr Robot resembles
the old classic D/Generation, but much better. The missions are mostly about
opening doors by moving crates and obtaining keys.
Mr Robot is most
of the time an isometric experience; it’s one of the most beautiful isometric
games I have ever seen though. The shading and colors are simply stunning. Personally
I like the brighter color scheme more than all those dark isometric games out
there. Controlling Asimov is done by the arrow keys or using the mouse, the
mouse is easier to use but if you use a touchpad the arrow keys are probably
the way to go.
The game comes
packed with a really good soundtrack; it’s sort of a slow relaxing beat.
The developers could have had more tracks though since it becomes a bit repetitive.
There is also no special music when you move into battles, so the drama when
fighting could have been higher.
Mr Robot is one
of the most original games we have played so far. The game is sort of a mixture
between D/Generation and the Heroes of Might and Magic series, but with its
own dose of originality and style. This game is a must, it should fit a wide
array of players. Mr Robot might be one of the best games this year, and it’s
only January.

Very cool, very different
I didn't now wat to expect looking at the screenshots, very strange game, part adventure, part puzzle, part final fantasy type thing. Cool game. Some of the puzzles were a bit tricky though. Thumbs up
