Released in the shadow of Tumblebugs and Luxor comes another Zuma clone, Chameleon Gems. Can it compete? Read on to find out.

Chameleon Gems is the latest Zuma clone to hit the market (mostly different download sites). In Chameleon Gems you are to prevent a chain of gems on some sort of tracks to fall down in to a hole. For you to be successful you need to shorten the chain of different coloured gems by matching them with gems that will be shot into the chain. If you played Zuma or Tumblebugs you will feel right at home. In this game you will play as a Chameleon (hence the name).

For this review I really had to look for what Chameleon Gems brings to the table. What is included that we haven’t seen in other Zuma-clones? Chameleon Gems comes with power-ups that you can purchase between levels or earn during the game by hitting special gems.

The power-ups ranges from lasers to automatically matching gems, you can also purchase skins for your chameleon (which gives more long-lasting abilites). Essentially the power-ups are all the same, they get rid of gems.

Chameleon Gems features a relaxing soundtrack, which in my mind adds a lot more to the game than music usually do. You hardly notice it’s there when it’s on, but when it’s off you miss it. Graphically the game is simply great, the gems are looking delicious and the environments are nice. There are also neat effects when you take gems out or get bonuses.

Playing the game requires both puzzling skills and fast reflexes (as with all other Zuma clones). It’s addictive to play but it brings nothing new to the table, except for the power-ups. This is the general problem with this game, there have been too many predecessors for this to be a fresh breeze. It also lacks a story, which was Tumblebug’s strength. However Chameleon Gems is not a bad game, it’s fun and addictive.
