Harold the Homeboy has decided to climb a huge tower, and you have been chosen to help him. Is the game as thin as the story, read on to find out?

Icy Tower is a completely free release from Free Lunch Games. The game is heavily based on Nintendo’s old classic Ice Climber (released for the NES in 1984). In Ice Tower your objective is to climb as high as possible, the higher you climb the higher score you get.

Each floor you climb has a number; at every hundred floor a new starting floor is enabled. The floors have different looks to keep you from getting bored but work essentially the same way.

The controls are quite easy to master, Harold jumps when pressing space and you move him around using the arrow keys. You can also do super charge jumps, which is exactly what it seems like.

Icy Tower isn’t exactly littered with options and features, one should keep in mind that it’s free. Among the few options that are available is the replay feature that enables you to watch replays of your latest games, and also to save them. It’s pretty neat, even though I have a tough time finding a real use for it.

The graphics in the game isn’t much to brag about, however they are not bad. Harold is pretty humorous to watch in some odd way. A red flag are the fonts in the menu and score tables. They are pretty much unreadable and I suspect they are there to increase Harold’s street cred.

Speaking of the menu, the main menu music is dreadful. It cuts through glass, maybe even sapphires. But the in-game soundtrack is quite nice to listen to while playing, maybe it’s not destined for a hit success it does the job fine.

Icy Towers is fun to play and strangely addictive for being free. If the developers would just change the fonts and get rid of the dreadful main menu music this game would definitely be a favourite at the office.
