Caravel Games Gives Away Their Job to Fans Print E-mail

Caravel Games, creator of the DROD series, is ambiguously happy and confused. By offering their game with a powerful in-game editor and online features for developing and publishing levels, the Caravel team has found themselves no longer the primary source of new content in their own game, although they are still as active in development as ever.

“It’s strange,” said Erik Hermansen, founder of Caravel Games. “For our expansion packs, we mainly just improve the polish on what other people have done. We take the player-submitted content very seriously, and add voice acting and stories to what they do. But players are doing the hard work of designing new levels.” Earlier in the year, the count of user-created levels for the DROD series passed 8,000.
