Sometimes it's nice to see something fresh, to find a game that you have never seen anything like before. Pax Solaris could be mistaken for just another galactic warfare simulator but it isn't.

Sometimes it's nice to see something fresh, to find a game that you have never seen anything like before. Pax Solaris could be mistaken for just another galactic warfare simulator but it isn't. The game is set in space and your main objective is to capture as many stars as possible. You capture them from your computer AI enemies or from another player using your ships.

You have a limited number of ships and you have to move them around and find out a way to use them effectively. Of course you need to think of a strategy to beat your opponents. What I like about this game is that it is more like a puzzle game than a galactic wargame (I'm personally sick and tired of galactic wargames).

There are a series of settings you can use, larger boards, more stars, more ships different opponents and so on and that's nice. The developer has chosen to keep the game simple, a wise decision. Generally space games become too complicated because of all the sci-fi you have to get into while playing. This isn't it could just as easily be set on earth or in any other environment and it would still be a winner.

But where is the sound? Good question there is no sound and no music; this definitely brings the score down severely. Also it doesn't say anywhere in the shareware version how much the game costs, however there are very detailed ordering instructions. When will small developers understand that it is important to print how much the game will cost to purchase inside the game? I believe that a substantial amount of people would get discouraged to purchase the game if they don’t learn the cost directly.

The graphics in the game are very nice, they are actually quite cute and beautiful, very galactic. Overall Pax Solaris is a good game, but without any sound, it's sad because it could have been a ten but now it's an eight.
