Monopoly Deluxe was released by Virgin Games in 1992, almost 12 years ago. As the name hints the game is heavily based on Monopoly the board game. This game was actually a very early Windows games, this means that it actually works using Windows XP as well.

There have been many conversions of board games to computer games. One example, which turned out well, is Risk, which we will review in the future. Monopoly Deluxe also turned out pretty well, which you are about to find out.

There are no significant differences between Monopoly and the computer game Monopoly Deluxe. The bank can't cheat you; it's easier to keep track of transactions and happenings thanks to the status bar in the right lower corner.

You can play against a friend, several friends or against the computer. The computer put up a pretty good fight but this game is right on the spot if you are playing against a friend. If you really love monopoly you might find it entertaining to play against the computer as well.

Personally I think this game is too basic to be any fun today. There is no point in ripping a board game and turning it into a computer game if you don't add features that can only be done on a computer. I would like a multiplayer option, playing this game over e-mail would be great. Of course this might have been very complicated in 1992, which means that this game feels a bit old. It's fun to play against friends but other than that it's not that special.

The graphics in the game are, yes you guessed it, like Monopoly. Of course there are some animations but that's about it. If you are ever going to develop a game that's from the beginning was a board game remember to take advantage of the computer technology otherwise it might as well remain a board game.
